Our Story
Why "Lotus Rose"?
Named for a woman who knew what it meant to bloom in hard ground.
The Woman Behind the Name
Lotus Rose
The name reflects both a meaningful personal connection and the deeper symbolism behind the work of therapy. Lotus Rose Counseling is named for the founder's grandmother, Lotus Rose, a woman who rose through significant adversity.
As a young mother, she cared for her family alone while her husband was away at war. Later, she faced the loss of her husband at a much younger age than anticipated, continuing on to navigate life on her own. Despite these challenges, she remained strong and compassionate, with a great sense of humor.
Her life reflects the quiet resilience so many women carry. The ability to endure, adapt, and continue caring for those around them, even in the midst of their own hardship.
What the Lotus and Rose Represent
The lotus rises from muddy, uncertain waters to bloom into something whole and beautiful. The rose carries both petals and thorns: love and vulnerability alongside the strength and boundaries that healing requires. Together, they represent the balance of resilience and tenderness that sits at the heart of this work.
The Founder
Joy Bouchard, LCSW
Joy founded Lotus Rose because she's lived the struggle. As a mother of three, she has her own journey with birth trauma, postpartum depression, and postpartum anxiety, with each child bringing a different experience.
She knows what it's like to be searching for someone you can talk to, someone who can give guidance through the hardest chapters of motherhood. That's the practice she set out to build.
"I wanted to create a place that was very safe, that felt warm and welcoming. All of our clinicians are trained in how to help specifically with women's issues. I wanted it to be a safe haven."
Joy Bouchard, LCSW — FounderWhat We Do
Women's Mental Health Is Our Specialty
A lot of practices say they see women for postpartum or perinatal issues, but they also see everyone else for everything else. At Lotus Rose, women's mental health is our core focus. Every therapist is trained in trauma treatment, and every continuing education course is chosen specifically to get better at treating women's issues.
We work with women navigating perinatal mental health, including postpartum depression, birth trauma, and infant loss, alongside childhood abuse recovery, grief, anxiety, depression, infertility, and the identity shifts that come with major life transitions. We also work with teens and children, especially those navigating grief, trauma, and behavioral challenges.
